Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) & Heart Disease

Overview

RPM 206 - Heart disease is a common chronic illness that can be managed properly with remote patient monitoring. This course gives an overview of this illness including risk factors and diagnosis/symptoms of common types of heart diseases. Learn how to educate patients about heart disease and be able to use a disease management program to help patients avoid critical danger zones.

Trainees will be able to work with clients who have heart disease and use RPM. At the end of the badge, trainees will be able to do the following:  

  1. Define various heart diseases
  2. Explain risk factors for common heart disease types  
  3. Explain the basic diagnoses/symptoms of various heart diseases
  4. Analyze basics of the management of how heart disease
  5. Explain various diagnostic tests
  6. Analyze medications typically administered for heart disease (blood pressure meds; cholesterol-lowering meds; blood thinners)
  • Be able to explain the purpose of each medication
  • Compare and contrast side effects of common medications  
  1. Evaluate a health chart of a patient with heart disease  
  2. Help patient with vital signs such as blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation levels
  3. Speak to patient about their progress in maintaining health/educate them on
  • Lifestyle changes
  • Healthy eating
  • Exercise
  • Smoking cessation
  1. Enter data into RPM for monitoring a patient with heart disease (with DMP)
  2. Evaluate DMP data of a patient with heart disease (at critical junctions)
  3. Speak to physician or nurse practitioner about patient’s progress when needed
